PAB FT232RL USB GUIDE VER1.0
This PCB is designed to accommodate a FT232RL device and interface to the
PAB. The FT232RL is an USB to asynchronous serial data transfer interface with
internal 3V3 regulator and other features. Various power modes supported. On
board USB B and USB micro B sockets, and ESD protection at USB connection
Refer to Future Technology Devices International Ltd. FT232R USB UART IC
data sheet for device operation details.
AVOID TOUCHING THE PINS AND STORE THIS BOARD IN AN ANTI-
ELECTROSTATIC ENVIROMENT, AS THE PINS ARE DIRECTLY
CONNECTED TO THE FT232RL AND STATIC DISCHARGE WILL DESTROY
THE DEVICE.
FEATURES
ESD protection on USB bus.
On board USB B and micro B sockets, only one socket may be in use at a time.
USB Micro B pin 4 biasing via solder jumper.
All useful interface connections from the device are available at the PAB.
Solder jumper option for CBus LED status indicators.
USB bus 5V can be brought out at PAB
Power configurations including Bus powered, Self powered, USB Bus powered with power
switching configuration and Bus Powered with Selectable External Logic Supply, as
described in FTDI FT232R data sheet.

A note on connector mounting
For users doing self assembly, ensure the correct
orientation of the plastic insulator on the right
angle male connector. The connector pin section
passing through the insulator should be parallel to
the PCB not perpendicular to the PCB. This is not
only so that longer section mates with the female
connector, but mainly so that the pin is the correct
height above the PCB for the female connector to
be tight against the PCB.
